Neck care

Neck care

Your neck should be treated with as much tender care as your face.

If you neglect your neck, it will show your age, no matter how marvelous your figure or facial skin is. It should be kept as clean as your face and nourishing creams you use for face should also be used for your neck. Whenever you wash your face, wash your neck also. If you apply foundation and powder on your face and neglect your neck, the result will be a sharp contrast between the two. Beside this, neck needs some special treatment as well.

The appearance of neck depends on the way you hold your head. Correct posture is to hold your head high, chin up and slightly forward. If you have a faulty posture, the result will be double chin or flabby muscles.

A good carriage of your whole body, especially the back, affects the carriage of your head and shoulders.

Very rarely, one finds someone holding correct posture while walking or sitting. It adds or detracts from your total image.

While walking, move from the hips only and allow the legs to lead the body. If you take shorter strides in the beginning, it will be easier to achieve a graceful gait.

The easiest and perhaps the oldest way of learning to walk gracefully, is to practice walking with a book on your head. This practice will teach you to carry your head correctly.

Whitening and Softening Neck-Skin

Cream your neck daily at night with upward motions, with some nourishing cream. For whitening and softening the skin of the neck, make a skin tonic by mixing 3 teaspoons of borax powder, 6 teaspoons of glycerin and 24 tablespoons or rose water. This lotion is good for your shoulders and arms too.

A simple overnight cream for neck and shoulders can be prepared very easily at home by mixing equal parts of lanolin and butter. Beat them thoroughly in a double saucepan, even boiling water.

Rub this cream over your neck and shoulders in upward motions. Leave it on overnight and wash in the morning.

Beside all these creams and lotions a few simple exercises help keep your neck in good shape.

Exercises for Neck

  • ü  Breathe slowly and bring your neck down to rest on the cheat. Then raise your head slowly and bend it backwards as far as you can. Repeat it at least ten times daily.

  • ü  Another exercise is breathing deeply and turn your neck on your left side as far as you can without moving your shoulders and body. Then turn it on right side again without moving your shoulders and body. Repeat this exercise ten times daily each way.
